Here are some images of work in my studio:
Another Heap - Here I have R. Smithson’s Heap of Language in mind. A debasement of his idea of “printed matter” for a thesaurus of my abstracted perception of art making and life living.

ABOUT FACE, Vinyl Lettering on Found Mirror - I positioned the mirror in relation to the entrance to my studio. I think it is funny to enter a studio and be confronted with yourself and, simultaneously, a text that tells you to turn right back around and leave. "About face" most obviously refers to the mirror as an object that provides the image of (or the opportunity for one to view) one's face - a mirror is about the face. I was also thinking about the text as a military order, in this general sense, I am aligning the work with military withdrawal in Iraq. I am interested in how the viewer interacts with the mirror and text, how the viewer chooses to read it, whether or not one wants (or cares) to see themselves - I think oftentimes we approach a mirror because we have the desire to, so how does one react to a mirror put up to their face?

Not-Pictured, Found book "A Handbook to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum Collection" - I found this book at Strand for $10. The way the book is arranged on the pedestal and resting against the wall forces the viewer to bend down to read the title and move around the pedestal to view the tipped-in photograph that has been partially removed from the page. The photograph is of a Chinese painting that clearly does not belong in this location in the book. Despite this manufacturing flaw, I am interested in asking the viewer to move around the book and decipher its problem(s). I am interested in the parenthetical notation that the page offers. It conjures a clear image in my mind of what it refers to -a phenomenon that is a product of our optic-centric culture. I think that the museum is a significant subject, especially the Guggenheim, because of the incredible amount of dismantling and intervention it has posed with artists (Daniel Buren, Hans Haacke, etc.) I think that there is something poetic and funny about an incorrect printing of a text that is (peremptorily) representative of the clear delineation and commodification of a culture's art history.
Also, I have updated the “RECENT” portion of the “WORK” page with some things I did last fall.
I don’t think I have ever said this on here but feel free to email me if you have questions or want to know more about the work.
Check back soon because I will be launching an extension of this site.
