The Way Out, 50 cm x 70 cm Collage
An exhibition postcard rotated clockwise 90 degrees
the artist walking along a path of broken stone
arms outstretched, head towards the path in front of her feet
in business suit, Dubai skyline
the (vertical) horizon line is centered upon and
extends to the fold in a page spread, behind the postcard.
The page spread fold is the meeting-place for two images.
On the left of the fold is a photograph of dirt, a path or road.
On the right is a subtle gradation of grays.
A sheet of 8”x10” Ilford resin-coated, black and white,
photo paper in portrait orientation is horizontally-centered behind the gradation image.
The left edge of the taupe photo paper is aligned with the
page spread fold, the horizon.
Behind the photo paper and aligned with the bottom
edge of the page spread is an inkjet print of a photograph I made of the Iowa River
(looking down at the surface of the water from a bridge).
The print forms an equal boundary to the left of and above the photograph
of dirt from the page spread.
